MADISON, FLA -- The Madison County boys' 12 and under team has become the talk of the town with their winning ways this summer.
After capturing the district tournament back in June, the boys again came out victorious at the Babe Ruth State Baseball Tournament last weekend, July 14 – 17, in Live Oak, Fla.
As state champions, the Madison team will now represent the state of Florida at the Babe Ruth Regional Tournament in Aiken, S.C.
The regional is scheduled to start July 28 and features teams from Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee and even the Bahamas.
After losing their opening game, Madison bounced back to beat teams from Gainesville, Tallahassee, Jacksonville and Florida Atlantic to eventually win the state championship. The boys will now be the first 12U group from Madison to represent the state and “Team Florida” jerseys at the regional tournament.
The team put on a fundraiser on Thursday, July 21, at the Madison County Courthouse, but is still short $2000 of their goal and accepting donations before they depart next Tuesday, July 26.
