MOBILE, Ala. – Valdosta State tennis duo Christian Hansen and Luis Loeffler will bring home another championship for VSU men’s tennis. The team earned the USTA/ITA Small College Championship this weekend with a win over Brian Chow and Richard Meyer of Williams College.
Hansen and Loeffler beat Chow and Meyer, 6-3, 6-2, but it still turned out to be the longest match on championship Sunday.
Chow and Meyer were able to jump to a 3-1 lead, but Hansen and Loeffler bounced back to win the final five games of the first set. In the second set, Hansen and Loeffler went ahead for good with a break at 3-2, breaking again to win the match at 5-2.
Between men’s doubles, singles and women’s doubles and singles, there were only two NCAA Division II representatives. Hansen and Loeffler in men’s doubles and Rollins’ Luca Jovita in men’s singles.
