VALDOSTA, Ga. - Valdosta State shot a final round 298 to move up to 13th in the final round of play at the AFLAC/Cougar Invitational Tuesday at the par 71, 6,515 yard Country Club of Columbus.
The Blazer finished the tournament 47-over-par with a 899. Georgia Southwestern won the even with a team score of 856 (+4) while Lynn was second at 861. Barry finished third at 873 while Georgia College (876) and Columbus State (882) rounded out the top five. Florida Southern was sixth with a three-round total of 883 and Carson-Newman tallied an 885 to finish seventh while North Alabama (886), Florida Tech (889) and Flagler (893) rounded out the top 10. Coker and Clayton State tied for 11th at 898 while Lander (904), Delta State (905), Newberry (906) and Queen's (907) rounded out the field.
Travis Huston led the Blazer squad as he shot a one-over 72 on Tuesday to finish the tournament tied for 13th with a four-over 217. Abdul Sihag (77) tied for 51st at 226 (+13) while Clarke Hendrick (76) and Max Van Dresser (74) tied for 58th at 229. Nate Anderson (67) rounded out the VSU squad with a 231.
Georgia Southwestern's Craig Gibson claimed individual medalist honors with a two-under 211.
Valdosta State returns to action Monday, October 17 when it takes part in the TVA Credit Union Classic in Florence, Ala.
