ALBANY, Ga. – Valdosta State improved to 11-5 on the season with a 3-1 victory over Albany State on the road Monday evening.
Valdosta State suffered a bit of the road woes early in the match, dropping the first set to the Golden Rams despite a furious comeback, but rebounded as the match continued.
Both the second and third sets were closer as the teams jostled back and forth, but the Blazers came out victorious in both sets to earn a 2-1 lead.
Finally, in the fourth set, Valdosta State ran away from Albany State. The Blazers used strong blocks from Destiny Berry and company to break the ASU spirit and finish strong with a 25-11 win in the final set.
While Berry played well at the net blocking, hitting some timely blocks late, she also hit a strong percentage. In addition to Berry, Nikki McDaniel put forth a strong effort in the match.
Valdosta State will look to continue its strong performance on the road with a match at 8 p.m. at West Florida Thursday.
