Pensacola, FL - In the first round of the Gulf South Conference Tournament, Valdosta State met Harding for the second consecutive year. Harding proved stronger in both contests, knocking off VSU Friday, 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-22).
Valdosta State produced a balanced attack, just not enough of it. Chelsea Logan, Ruthie King, Irene Hannan and Katie Onushko all had seven kills to lead the team while Tania Tauiliili pitched in four. Emelia Saulter provided 16 assists while Hope Ripsam passed out 13.
Defensively, the Blazers outblocked Harding, 4-3 with Tauiliili and Hannan there for all of them. Chelsea Luttfring led in digs with 12 while King had 11.
Tauiliili led the team in attack percentage at .364 while Logan and Onushko finished at .235 and .211 respectively. It just wasn’t high enough. Valdosta State’s team percentage was at .139 while Harding hit for .256.
Amber Schinzing led the Bison in assists with 35. Mollie Arnold led in kills with 15, and Jordan Smith tallied 10. Defensively, Emily Tate got under 17 digs while Schinzing and Arnold totaled 21.
The Blazers will await their fate for the NCAA Division II National Tournament until the selection Sunday.
