VALDOSTA, Ga. – Valdosta State continued its undefeated season Sunday with a 1-0 victory over the Montevallo Falcons from the Peach Belt Conference.
It was an even game for most of the match with Valdosta State shooting 10 shots to Montevallo’s nine, but the Blazers held the early advantage with six first half shots to the Falcons’ two.
After the scoreless first half, Rebecca Miller and Abbi Edwards teamed up for the game winner early in the second half.
Edwards, who pestered Montevallo all day, dribbled to the center of the field and sent a pass forward to Miller. With the great assist, Miller just had to sneak it past the keeper. She did for her second goal of the season. The goal came just 1:52 into the second half so VSU could breathe a bit the rest of the half.
The Falcons did apply more pressure in the second half with seven shots to just four for VSU, but Olivia Mills only had to make one save for her third shutout of the season. The Blazers placed three shots on goal, but Kaitlin Thomas could only manage two saves with Miller being too much for her.
Valdosta State returns to action at Tampa at 7 p.m. Friday.
