Cougars Too Much for VSU

Columbus, GA - Valdosta State traveled out of region to face the Columbus State Cougars Tuesday night. The Cougars received points from everyone who played to put away the Lady Blazers, 58-41, and drop Valdosta State to 2-2 on the season.

Brittany Ferguson continues to play strong for Valdosta State. Tuesday, she led the team in scoring with 13 points and in rebounding with seven. Amanda Haven and Shakeda Richie supported Ferguson with seven points each. Jordan Waugh scored five while Sczeny Hartry put in four points.

Valdosta State outrebounded the Cougars, 35-33, but Columbus State moved the ball well against the Lady Blazers. The Cougars finished with 13 assists to just five for VSU. The good looks helped CSU shoot 44.2 percent while Valdosta State finished at just 28.3 percent shooting and a mere 10.5 percent from long range.

The Lady Blazers kept the game close throughout the first half, heading to the break trailing by just three, but Columbus State scored 34 second half points to 20 for the Valdosta State.

For Columbus State, Dominique Gilbert led the way with 14 points and eight rebounds. Asha Alexander also had eight boards. Three other Cougars scored eight points each.

Valdosta State will next be in action for a rematch at Tampa at 5:30 p.m. December 1.
