On the Division 2 football level, the Valdosta State Blazers have a number of storylines worth worth narrating. Here's more in this week's Every Team Has a Story
The Valdosta State Blazers had won 75 Gulf South Conference games in the past decade... 10 years with an average of more than 7 wins per season--that's more than any other team in the conference during that stretch... And so far, the new decade is off to a good start... Saturday the Blazers picked up their 2nd GSC victory of the year.
I'm happy to be on the battlefield with them... games are like rollercoasters, you have your ups and downs but in the end you come out on top," said VSU Senior Defensive Tackle Demario Jones.
And the win against Ouachita Baptist had a big side story in it... Back in 2000, former Valdosta State quarterback Dusty Bonner accounted for 7 touchdowns against the OBU Tigers... And last weekend, Bonner had his number 17 jersey retired... You can believe the current blazers have plans on making lasting memories from the 2010 season-- and at (4-1) on the year, Valdosta State is blazing the right path.
"We are a tick away from hitting on all cyllindars... We've gotten better each week. into next week, which will be a big game too," said VSU junior quarterback Austen Roberts.
