Birmingham, AL -- As Valdosta State continues to run roughshod over the Gulf South Conference and the South Region, individual accolades continue to roll in for the Blazers. Alanna Hadley earns her third consecutive GSC Pitcher of the Week honor and her fourth of the season. Morgan Johnson becomes the second Blazer in three weeks to earn the Player of the Week award. It’s her first of the season.
Hadley picked up four wins in a 6-0 week for Valdosta State. She put together three complete-game victories in four appearances on the week and only allowed one earned run over 23.1 innings. Two of her wins came against conference foes Christian Brothers and Delta State in which she did not allow an earned run and struck out eight for her 16th consecutive victory and Valdosta State’s 25th in a row.
For the season, Hadley has put together a 16-1 record with a 0.63 earned run average in 111 innings of work. She has only allowed opponents to hit just .169. All of those numbers lead the conference while she is third in the GSC in strikeouts with 82.
Meanwhile, Johnson brings home her first award of the season, joining Courtney Albritton as the only two Blazers to earn the Player of the Week award this season. Johnson hit .545 with five extra-base hits over six games last week. She knocked three two-run homers, one in each doubleheader.
Johnson led Valdosta State in runs batted in on the week with 10 and also scored five times. She was perfect in two stolen base attempts and led the Blazers in hits with 12. For the season, Johnson leads the conference in batting average (.460) and on-base percentage (.549) with seven home runs and 28 RBI.
Both players will lead Valdosta State against Albany State at 4 p.m. Wednesday, then prepare for conference doubleheaders against North Alabama and Alabama-Huntsville this weekend.
