Valdosta, GA - As Valdosta State prepares for the Gulf South Conference Tournament, the Lady Blazers learned they have two of the very best the conference has to offer.
Sczeny Hartry and Brittany Ferguson were both named to the All-Gulf South Conference Team. Hartry was named to the first team while Ferguson made the second team. It is the first time for both players.
Hartry joins West Alabama guard Mystee Dale, Alabama-Huntsville guard Jordan Smith, North Alabama forward Niala Harris and UAH forward Jasmine Hammon on the first team from the GSC East.
Ferguson joins North Alabama guard Sanqueeta Meardith, West Alabama guard LaShandra McCoy, West Florida guard Sher’Ryan Scott, UWA forward Latashia Greer and West Georgia forward Monica Williams.
Hartry is second on the team in scoring at 11.3 per game and has started 25 games at the point guard position this year. She has scored as high as 21 points and given as many as nine assists in a game this season. She leads the team in three-pointers with 45 made on a .324 shooting percentage beyond the arc. In conference play, Hartry scores a team high 12.8 per game.
Ferguson is the team’s leading scorer, averaging 11.6 points per game. She is also the team’s leading rebounder, averaging 8.2 per game. Ferguson notched seven double-doubles on the season, her first in the Gulf South Conference.
Both players will lead Valdosta State against Ouachita Baptist at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in the opening game of the Gulf South Conference Tournament.
