Valdosta, GA - About 400 kids came out to Meet the Blazers Day on Saturday morning. The Valdosta State football team hosted a clinic and signed autographs for some of their biggest fans.
It's only a week before VSU opens its season, but the Blazers last day of training camp was run by munchkins.
"This is probably the most fun we have in camp," Head Football Coach David Dean said. "This finishes off camp for us. We finished our tough stuff yesterday."
Instead, the Blazers handed off the tough stuff to the youngsters.
"These kids are great out here, man," said Chris Pope, a sophomore linebacker. "It's something different, it's something new. We ain't hitting against each other. Showing the kids what we learned in camp, man. It's a great experience out here."
"The community does a lot for this program," said Matt Pierce, a junior cornerback. "They give a lot of time back and a lot of the boosters and the community. So, anytime we can give time back, it really means a lot to us and I know it means a lot to the fans."
"We know how much the community supports Valdosta State football, so this is an opportunity for us to give back to the community and the small kids," Dean said. "We love doing this, our players love doing this. They love being an influence on the kids as they grow up."
"These kids grow up loving Blazer football, you know?," said Austen Roberts, a senior quarterback. "And they're gonna come out here and be some of our biggest supporters and their family is, too."
