Valdosta, GA - The Gulf South Conference announced the 2010-11 Winter All-Academic Team and Lady Blazer Courtney Mitchell made the list. In addition to Mitchell, Lady Blazers Sczeny Hartry and Brittany Ferguson along with Blazer Josh Sparks made the Academic Honor Roll.
Nine women from across the conference made the All-Academic Team, with just two being from the GSC East. West Florida sophomore Emily Erland joins Mitchell in represent the GSC East.
Academically, Mitchell earned a 3.77 grade point average while studying physical education. Athletically, Mitchell started 25 of 27 games played this season. She was second on the team in rebounds, finishing with 126, while scoring 4.5 points per game.
Hartry, Ferguson and Sparks join Mitchell in being honored for their academic performance. Ferguson earned a 3.64 GPA, majoring in middle grade education while Hartry earned a 3.05 GPA and is studying criminal justice.
While all of the Lady Blazers are heading to their senior seasons, Sparks is the only underclassmen to make the Academic Honor Roll. As a sophomore, Sparks finished with a 3.00 GPA while majoring in Health and Physical Education.
