Valdosta, GA -- Valdosta State softball’s Samantha Posey hit for the home run cycle in a doubleheader against Albany State last season. That, and her connection to brother Buster Posey, MLB catcher for the San Francisco Giants, led to a live interview on ESPN’s First Take. The connection has led to ESPN recognition yet again.

The Poseys were mentioned as one of nine of ESPN’s favorite list of sibling rivalries. One of ESPN’s umbrella websites, ESPNw, reported on various sibling rivalries in the world of sports as part of coverage of the 40th anniversary of Title IX being signed into law.

In ESPN’s reporting on the rivalry, which can be found here listed as the ninth rivalry, Posey mentions that Buster, as well as her other brothers, were “picked on by the other guys” if Posey played better than them.

After her four home runs against Albany State, Buster said, “The guys gave me a hard time because I had two homers all year, and she had four in one day.”

Posey currently leads VSU’s softball team in batting average at .461. She has 76 hits, 23 runs batted in, 19 runs scored and just three strikeouts in 23 games played this season. Posey has helped lead Valdosta State to an impressive 25-2 record overall, a Gulf South Conference leading 12-0 record and a No. 2 ranking in the National Fastpitch Coaches’ Association’s coaches rankings.
