Birmingham, AL - Arielle Sabina put together a strong week, leading Valdosta State to two 1-0 shutouts at home against Gulf South Conference opponents Christian Brothers and Delta State. For her performance, Sabina earned Valdosta State Soccer’s first ever GSC Player of the Week award.
The junior from Lawrenceville, Ga., scored the game-winning goal against Christian Brothers and led a defense that only allowed a single shot on goal over the course of two matches.
In overtime against Christian Brothers, Sabina, who usually makes most of VSU’s corner kicks, found herself in the field for a corner kick from Margaret Stauffer. Stauffer’s corner found Sabina and she tapped it in for the winning goal at the end of the 95th minute.
Sabina and the Blazers will next be in action Friday at 3 p.m. at Alabama-Huntsville.
