Birmingham, AL - Valdosta State Softball can now boast seven All-Gulf South Conference players this season, headlined by Holly Satterfield, who takes home her second consecutive GSC East Pitcher of the Year award.

In addition to Satterfield, catcher Ashley Steinhilber, shortstop Marti Littlefield, designated player Colette Rollins and third baseman Samantha Posey all took home first team honors on the All-GSC East team.

First baseman Natalia Morozova and second baseman April Hutchens earned All-GSC East second team honors.

Satterfield earns her third All-GSC nod. She took home second team honors her sophomore season and was first team GSC East Pitcher of the Year last season. She was named GSC East Pitcher of the Week a league-high six times en route to her second GSC East Pitcher of the Year award.

For the season, Satterfield is 20-4 with a 0.74 earned run average and a mere .187 opponent’s batting average, both conference bests. She threw 18 complete games and struck out 113 batters in 148 1/3 innings. With 11 shutouts this season, Satterfield reached 30 career shutouts to tie her for the most all-time shutouts in VSU Softball history.

Littlefield and Hutchens are also making repeat appearances on the All-GSC East team. For Littlefield, it is her third time to make the team. Her breakout freshman season landed her Freshman of the Year recognition and first team honors. She also made the first team with Satterfield last season.

This year, Littlefield is recognized at the shortstop position for not just her offensive performance but her defense as well. She only has five errors for a .956 fielding percentage at the most tested position on the field. Her offense hasn’t faltered either. She is second on the team in batting average and leads the team in doubles.

Hutchens was also a first team honoree in 2010, but makes the second team this season. She is hitting .303 for the year with six doubles and four home runs, but is simply a dominant defensive presence at second base. Hutchens has long been considered the best defensive second baseman in the conference if not the region or nation. Her work there this season led to her second All-GSC East appearance.

Steinhilber and Rollins both make the All-GSC East team for the first time in their careers, Steinhilber as a sophomore and Rollins as a junior. Rollins has provided a strong presence at the designated player position, busting six home runs on the year, second on the team. She is hitting .363 with seven doubles.

In her second season on the team, Steinhilber has been faced with a tough task: replacing All-American catcher Alyssa Shirey. Steinhilber has made the position her own though with 195 putouts and 10 assists to just one error on the year. She hits .300, has eight doubles, two triples and four home runs.

Newcomers Posey and Morozova have made their homes at the corners for VSU. Working first and third, the duo has been strong. The two leading RBI hitters combine for 79 RBI so far this season. Morozova leads the team with 41 RBI while Posey leads the team in home runs with 10. Posey is hitting .435, and Morozova stands at .369. Both are currently one and two in the batting lineup.

The No. 4 ranked Valdosta State softball team has clearly put together a great season already, but there is still work to be done. These seven Blazers and company will start the 2011 postseason against Ouachita Baptist at 12 p.m. Friday at the Gulf South Conference Tournament.
