Freshman Kelsea Whitaker scored a goal in the 76th minute of the game to help propel TU Women's Soccer.(9-6-1) to a 2-1 victory over NCAA D2 Valdosta State University (11-5) on Wednesday evening in Valdosta, GA.

VSU opened the scoring when they found the back of the net on a strike from just inside the TU 18 yard box at the 21:38 mark of the first half. With the Valdosta State Blazers in control of the game, the Lady Night Hawks slowly began gaining control of the game with fifteen minutes remaining in the half. With just ten seconds to play in the half freshman Alyssa Tresch broke thru down the right side of the field and was found on the run by a combination pass from fellow freshman Alyssa Denton and Jenny Hernandez. Tresch received the pass inside the VSU 18 yard box and struck the ball on her second touch, beating the Blazer keeper to her right side with two seconds to play in the half. The teams entered the locker rooms at the half tied at one but it was TU that came out aggressive and set the tempo of play from the initial second half whistle. Unfortunately, for the Lady Night Hawks their ball possession was not resulting in scoring opportunities with the Blazer goalkeeper only needing to record one save in the half. On the other side of the ball the TU defense shutdown any semblance of an attack by VSU, minimizing their counter attack opportunities. Whitaker broke the tie with a header from just outside the six yard box off a free kick service by sophomore Hannah Claesson from 40 yards away from the goal. Leading by one with fifteen minutes to play the TU defense imposed their aggression and desire to win the game and preserve the victory. Senior goalkeeper Heather Collins turned away VSU's most dangerous scoring opportunity, deflecting a dangerous shot into the crossbar with only thirty seconds remaining in the game. It would be the last shot for the Blazers and a game saver for the Lady Night Hawks.

The victory concludes the regular season for TU. Women's soccer will now begin preparations for the 2011 Association of Independent Institutions Conference Tournament to be hosted by TU at Remington Park November 11-12.
