Valdosta, GA - Valdosta State moved a little closer to .500 with a dominating win against Albany State on Halloween night, 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-13).
The Blazers improved in every set, hitting .333 in the first, .412 in the second and .455 in the third to finish with a team attacking percentage of .389 as the team improved to 15-16 on the season.
Chelsea Logan led the team in kills with 15 to just three errors on 28 attacks for an outstanding .429 attacking percentage. Katie Onushko was the other Blazer with double-digit kills at 11 on a .368 attacking percentage.
Valdosta State split the setting duties Monday night with Ashley Lala giving out 27 assists and Hope Ripsam handing out 17. Leading the team in digs was Krista Bradford with 11 while Lala tallied seven. The Blazers outblocked Albany State, 9-5 with Destiny Berry leading the way with two solo blocks and five assists.
For Albany State, Jillian Anderson led the team with seven kills while Jennifer Johnson gave out 21 assists. Adrienne Morris tallied 11 digs.
Valdosta State has already clinched a spot in the Gulf South Conference Tournament but will go on the road to face New Orleans and West Florida in the coming weekend to try to improve the team’s seeding in the tournament. The Blazers will face New Orleans at 8 p.m. Friday and West Florida at 3 p.m. Saturday.
