Valdosta, GA -- It's not the Blazers who are the first ones to practice on Valdosta State's new football fields. David Dean and his coaching staff are holding camps on the new turf for high school players.

We teach them a little bit about the same thing that we teach our football team," says VSU head football coach David Dean. "We tell them to go back and if it's something that helps you with your season then you need to do that."

Campers come from all throughout Georgia and North Floirda and receive help from all of the VSU coaching staff.

Dean adds, "They're getting college football coaching."

This is the last camp VSU will hold in Valdosta for the summer but after this one the coaching staff hits the road to take a tour through Georgia bringing the camp to campers who couldn't make the trip to Titletown.

Dean adds, "It also gives those guys who don't have the money and the resources to come to Valdosta, Georgia for a camp, we go to them. The can drive 15 or 20 minutes, some of them 45 minutes."

The visits also pay benefit for the coaches as well. Last year they were able to see over 200 kids.

Dean adds, "It gives us a chance to eye guys up, see them on the hoof so to speak."

All of the camps are non-contact and focus mainly on improving fundamental skills.
