LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Valdosta State drops to 9-5 on the season and 2-1 in Gulf South Conference play with a 3-1 loss to West Alabama Saturday. The Blazers fell in a close one, 30-28, 19-25, 26-24, 25-23.
Katie Onushko again led the team in kills with 19 to lead all players. Chelsea Logan, Jennifer Beatty and Tania Tauiliili combined for 33 kills. Onushko added seven digs, three blocks and two assists.
Meanwhile, Krista Bradford led the Blazers in digs with 20 while both Chelsea Luttfring and Ashley Lala tallied 13 digs. Lala doubled up with 43 assists and six kills for a .455 attacking percentage, highest on the team. Destiny Berry led the defense at the next with six blocks, three solo.
Angela Sanders led West Alabama in kills with 18 while Jennifer Campbell added 11. Alexis McHale passed out 45 assists while Casey Barnes racked up 27 digs.
The Blazers pushed the Tigers in the first set, going all the way to 30-28 before UWA could finally pull it out. Valdosta State rebounded in the second set with a 25-19 win, but dropped the third and fourth sets by just two points each.
Valdosta State will look to rebound against North Alabama back at The Complex at 7 p.m. Friday.
