Valdosta, GA - The entire field for the NCAA Division II Softball Tournament was announced Monday, and, for the 10th time in VSU’s history, Valdosta State made the field. The Blazers will head to Huntsville, Ala. this weekend for the NCAA South Regional Tournament.
After three-peating as Gulf South Conference Champions Sunday, Valdosta State ranked fourth in the South Region in the final rankings. As fourth in the rankings, VSU will be grouped with top seed Alabama-Huntsville, fifth seed Barry and eighth seed Fort Valley State, the automatic qualifier from the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
The Blazers (39-9) will start the weekend against Barry (33-12) at 2 p.m. Friday. Alabama-Huntsville (40-4-1) opens against Fort Valley State (24-18) at 5 p.m. Friday. Winners of the two games will face each other as will the losers in the double elimination tournament with the winner’s bracket taking place at 12 p.m. Saturday and the losers facing off at 2:30 p.m. Saturday
The winner of the loser’s bracket game will then face the loser of the winner’s bracket game at 5 p.m. Saturday. Then, the bracket’s championship will be played at 2 p.m. Sunday, and 4:30 p.m., if necessary. Click here for a full bracket of VSU’s regional (Note: Times listed on the bracket are CST).
For fans attending the tournament, tickets can be bought at the gate for $6 for adults and $4 for students per day.
Rollins will host the second South Regional Tournament in Winter Park, Fla. The second seeded Tars (45-2) open against seventh seed West Alabama (34-16). Third seed Tampa will face sixth seed Arkansas-Monticello (43-14). For a nationwide look at the NCAA Regional Tournaments, click here.
Valdosta State has faced Alabama-Huntsville five times this season, going 1-4. The Blazers, however, did beat UAH, 4-2, in the most recent meeting at the GSC Tournament. Valdosta State has not faced Barry or Fort Valley State yet this season.
