Valdosta, GA -- VSU was unsure if it's season would see one more game after being eliminated in the first round of the Gulf South Conference tournament.
"We thought we were on the bubble," head coach Kiley Hill says. "We had been in the top six in the region the entire ranking period and we were hoping that our entire body of work was going to be looked at instead of just one game."
The Lady Blazers won twenty this season, and their wish was granted on selection Sunday.
"We were excited. It was pure pandemonium," adds senior forward Brittany Ferguson. "We were just excited to have the opportunity to come out here and practice again. You don't think how much you take practice for granted until you have to stop playing."
"We were all so proud of each other," adds junior guard Maylisa Johnson. "We said now that we're back in it we have to work hard in practice and let it carry over to the game."
After missing the playoffs completely last year, VSU will travel to Winter Park, Florida to play Fort Valley State in the first round of the NCAA Division II South Regional.
Ferguson adds, "We actually played them twice last year so we have a feel of how he coaches and the type of girls he recruits. It's going to be a battle but hopefully we'll come out on top."
Should VSU win and move on, they'll already have faced the remaining teams in the region six times this season.
Johnson adds, "Every team is beatable, every team is beatable. We feel that is we play together and we play our game then it will be easy."
Hill adds, "It's just a step that we'll see what happens when we lace them up, toss them up and go."
