Hartsville, SC - Valdosta State continues its perfect start in the team’s inaugural season with the team’s third win of the season against Coker Friday afternoon.
Valdosta State forward Emily Gray Powell found Abbi Edwards early in the second half for the game winner. Powell sent a well-placed cross across the middle and Edwards finished it with a one-timer for the only goal VSU needed to win in the 1-0 victory.
While the Blazers only scored one goal, it was not for a lack of trying. The Blazers placed 14 shots on goal and tallied an eye-popping 25 shots. In the first half, Valdosta State shot the ball 13 times to outpace the Coker Cobras, which had its only shot in the first half.
With VSU continuously moving forward, Coker decided to hunker down on defense and pack it in near the Cobra’s goal. Unfazed, Valdosta State continued to fire until the team snuck one in early in the 49th minute.
Valdosta State’s defense continues to hold strong and keeps goalkeeper Olivia Mills out of trouble. She only had to stop one shot to notch her second shutout in three games.
The Blazers test their undefeated record against Montevallo at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the VSU Soccer Complex.
