VALDOSTA, Ga. – Valdosta State put on a dominating performance, sweeping West Georgia, 9-0, Saturday to move to 3-10 on the season and 2-3 in Gulf South Conference play.
The Lady Blazers started strong without giving up a single game in doubles play. Teams of Sarah Braun and Alina Nagel, Nicole Hernandez and Jessica Tuggle, and Leslie Roberge and Jahyne Pope all won, 8-0, for the early 3-0 lead.
Nagel and Hernandez kept the theme going at second and third singles, both winning, 6-0, 6-0. The other Lady Blazers finally gave up a game, but not much.
In top singles, Braun beat Caroline Brown, 6-1, 6-0. In fourth singles, Tuggle reversed it, and beat Aubrey Biddle, 6-0, 6-1.
In fifth singles, Roberge beat Kelsey Bowman, 6-1, 6-3, while Pope matched Braun in sixth singles, 6-1, 6-0, over Abby Gates.
Valdosta State’s next action comes against Embry Riddle at 1 p.m. Saturday.
