VALDOSTA, Ga. – Katie Onushko led Valdosta State in kills again as the Blazers went on to sweep Fort Valley State (25-10, 25-8, 25-7) and Adelphi (27-25, 25-18, 25-23).
Onushko tallied 18 kills on the day, but Chelsea Logan led the team in the second match with 12 against Adelphi. Ashley Lala continued her strong start to her VSU career with 46 assists on the day. Macy Markham has taken hold of the libero position and showed why Saturday with 17 digs to pace the team. Krista Bradford added 11 digs.
Valdosta State held strong at the net with 11 blocks on the day. Tania Tauiliili continues to lead the effort up front, tallying five blocks Saturday.
The Blazers showed stellar offensive efficiency against Fort Valley State, hitting .500 in the first set, .333 in the second and .588 in the third for a total .473 attacking percentage. Anna Nichenko again led the way notching six kills on seven attempts for an .857 percentage. Onushko hit .667 against FVSU with eight kills on 12 attacks, and Jennifer Beatty had six kills on eight attempts with just one error to finish the FVSU match at .625.
Valdosta State outblocked the Wildcats, 4-1. Meanwhile, Andrea Stephenson led FVSu in kills with four while Megan Archie passed out 10 assists. Robyn Starks and Kazue Takemoto both had five digs to lead the team.
The win against Adelphi did not come as easy, but VSU still took it in three. In addition to Logan’s 12 kills, Onushko added 10. Lala passed out 31 assists while Markham added 12 digs. Tauiliili helped the Blazers tally seven blocks in the match.
Adelphi’s Patawe Simms le the team with nine kills, and Katie Bryson passed out 22 assists. Libero Bianca Hernandez gathered 12 digs.
The Blazers take their show on the road next weekend with matches against Eastern New Mexico, Oklahoma Panhandle State, West Texas A&M and New Mexico Highlands at the West Texas A&M Tournament in Canyon, Texas.
