North Alabama and the Blazers were able to play one game before the weather hit, with VSU earning a 1-0 victory.
Natalia Morozova (Moscow, Russia) was the star for VSU. She went a perfect three for three at the plate and tallied eight putouts. She blasted two grounders up the middle and one into the first base/second base gap. She also caught a low liner to strand two UNA runners and end the sixth inning.
While Morozova may have been the star, Ashley Steinhilber (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) was the hero. She utilized her quick reflexes to score from third base on a passed ball by North Alabama catcher Kathryn Young. Steinhilber finished two for three with a run.
Steinhilber hit a single down the right line and moved to second on a passed ball. Sarah Vaughn (Watkinsville, Ga.) used a sacrifice bunt to move Steinhilber to third. Steinhilber scored the only run VSU needed to win with the passed ball moments later.
Meanwhile, Holly Satterfield (Hixson, Tenn.) put together a strong game from the pitcher's circle. In seven innings she only allowed two hits and walked one. She struck out seven and allowed no runs.
Marti Littlefield (Nashville, Ga.) was the only other Blazer to register a hit in addition to Steinhilber and Morozova. Littlefield was one for two with a walk.
