Valdosta, GA - Valdosta State Volleyball and Head Coach Sia Poyer is proud to announce the signing of two players for the fall of 2011. Krista Bradford, a multi-faceted player from Columbus, Ga., and Brittany Smith, an outside hitter from Fayetteville, Ga., will be Blazers.
Bradford can play outside hitter as well as libero and setter. At Columbus High she was an all-star selection and named first team all-state. Bradford led the team with 421 kills and 431 digs. She’ll be looking forward to majoring in criminal justice at Valdosta State.
“She is one of the top players in the state,” Poyer said of Bradford. “She is an extremely gifted athlete who did it all for her high school and club teams. She will immediately improve our serve-receive passing and floor defense.”
Smith, an all-star selection from Our Lady of Mercy, led her team in kills with 358. She made the all-area team and plans to study communications at VSU.
“She is a great all-around athlete,” Poyer said. “She was the offensive MVP at her high school so she is capable of scoring. Add that she has a good vertical and is a six-rotation player, and she will challenge for one of our outside hitter positions.”
Poyer is excited about both players, whom he says are “Blazer Volleyball-type players.”
“I’m extremely excited that they’ve both chosen VSU. I expect them to be immediate, impact contributors,” Poyer said. “They will also be excellent ambassadors of Blazer Volleyball in the classroom and community.”
