VALDOSTA, Ga. – Valdosta State’s, Christian Hansen and Luis Loeffler were the only Blazers or Lady Blazers in action Sunday and they went all the way. Hansen and Loeffler teamed up to win the region in men’s doubles play.

To reach the championship match, Hansen and Loeffler had to get past Max Wimmer and Leonel Vivas of Barry. The VSU duo dropped the first set, 6-4, but rallied in the second set to win 7-6 (8) and 10-1 in the final set.

Amaury Van Haelen and Vlad Cirla of Lynn were the opponents for Hansen and Loeffler in the final match. The Lynn team advanced to the championship round with a 9-7 victory over Bruno Savi and Leandro Ferreira of West Florida.

The championship match worked out much the same way as the semifinal round for Valdosta State. After dropping the first set, 6-4, Loeffler and Hansen rebounded to win the second set, 7-6, this time going all the way to nine for the tiebreaker. Then, in the third set, Hansen and Loeffler pulled away for the 10-1 win and the championship.

Hansen and Loeffler will be able to compete in the USTA/ITA National Tournament in the weeks to come.
