VALDOSTA, Ga. – Valdosta State released its 2012-13 schedule Wednesday. The Lady Blazers will start the 2012-13 season by hosting Trinity Bible at 6 p.m. Saturday, November 10 in The Complex and move on through the final regular season game on the road against Delta State at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 2, but the highlight of the season may come on Saturday, January 26, when Valdosta State welcomes Delta State to The Complex for a nationally televised game broadcasted by CBS Sports.
“It’s a tremendous honor to be selected by CBS Sports for the game of the week,” said Head Coach Kiley Hill. “We are fortunate to represent Valdosta State, our community and our program on a national level. It speaks volumes of our former and current student-athletes and their reputation, consistencty toward success and rivalries that have been established as they have represented our program throughout the years.”
After Trinity Bible, the Lady Blazers will take to the road to face Fort Valley State and Georgia Southwestern before returning home to host Albany State at 6 p.m. Tuesday, November 20, before Thanksgiving.
Following the brief holiday, Valdosta State will play its first GSC games against Union and North Alabama on the road before hosting a three-game home stand against south regional rivals Fort Valley State, Eckerd and Saint Leo. Next up will be a road game against Albany State just before the new year at 7 p.m. December 29.
From there, the Lady Blazers will play only conference games until the post season, starting with Alabama-Huntsville and Shorter in The Complex on January 3rd and 5th. Then it will be VSU’s longest road trip of the season with conference road games against West Georgia, West Alabama and West Florida on January 10th, 12th and 19th before welcoming Christain Brothers, Delta State for the nationally televised game, Union and North Alabama to The Complex for the longest home stand of the year.
Valdosta State’s game against North Alabama will start the fourth month of the season on February 2. On the 7th and 9th, VSU will play Alabama-Huntsville and Shorter on the road. West Georgia, West Alabama and West Florida will make their way to Valdosta after that with the Lady Blazers hosting Pink Zone against West Alabama on Saturday, February 16 and senior night against West Florida the next week, February 23.
The Lady Blazers will finish up the regular season on the road against Christian Brothers at 6 p.m. February 28, then start the final month of the season in Mississippi against Delta State.
“I’m hoping we can learn some valuable lessons about ourselves with the quality competition we’ve scheduled in regional foes from the Peach Belts, SIAC and Sunshine State conferences along with the rigors of the GSC,” Hill said. “Part of the process every year is understanding what loses before you understand what wins, and I think this schedule could take that understanding to another level. We will be better for it.”
After the GSC Tournament, to be held March 7-10 on the campus of Samford University in Birmingham, Ala., the NCAA Division II South Regional is scheduled for March 14-18 and the final tournament of the year, the NCAA Division II Elite Eight will be March 26-29 in San Antonio, Texas.
