MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - Valdosta State shot a first round 298 and followed with a 303 to stand tied for 10th with a 33-over 601 at the par 71, 6,733 yard Normandy Shores Golf Club Monday.
The Blazers finished the day 42 strokes behind tournament leader and host Barry, which shot a 285, 274 to stand nine-under-par at 559. West Florida was seven strokes behind Barry at 566 followed by Nova Southeastern in third at 570. Laval and Lynn tied for fourth at 576 while Central Florida was sixth, three strokes behind. Brevard Community College tallied a 585 to stand seventh and Florida Tech was eighth at 587 while Georgia Southwestern bested VSU by seven strokes to stand ninth.
Eckerd matched Valdosta State at 601 and Tampa and Johnson and Wales tied for 12th at 603 while Saint Leo rounded out the field at 612.
VSU's Evan Hanna shot 71-75 to tie for 26th on the day at 146 while Abdul Sihag and Clarke Hendrick tied for 53rd as each went 76-75 in the two rounds. Will Repko tallied a 77 in the first round and a 78 in the second to tie for 64th at 155 while Drew McGuire rounded out the Blazer team with a 75-81 to tie for 66th at 156.
Barry's Daniel Stapff fired a 72 followed by a 65 to claim the individual lead with a five under 137.
The tournament concludes with a single round of play beginning at 7:45 Tuesday morning.
