VALDOSTA, Ga. – Valdosta State moved to 10-3 on the season with a dominating 3-0 victory over Palm Beach Atlantic Saturday night.
The scoring started with Margaret Stauffer from one of the more active players on the night, Blakely McClellan. McClellan passed a through ball to Stauffer who found herself in a one-on-one with the PBA goalkeeper. She put it away to give the Blazers a 1-0 lead just 20 minutes into the match.
Just before the half, Morgan Cutts was able to score an unassisted goal to snag a strong 2-0 lead before the break. She corralled the ball in the middle of the box, turned and fired through the top right of the net for her third goal of the season.
Finally, in the 68th minute, Karly Lentz capitalized after the official called a handball on Palm Beach Atlantic in the box. Lentz scored on the penalty kick for her first career goal.
The Blazers applied pressure all night with 19 shots, 15 of which were on goal. The Blazers forced the PBA keeper to make 12 saves. Olivia Mills only needed two saves to secure her ninth shutout of the season.
The Blazers are next in action at Anderson at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
