FORT PIERCE, Fla. (AP) -- State wildlife officials are hosting two free women's fishing clinics along the east coast in central Florida.

The first clinic held by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will take place on Friday in Fort Pierce followed by Saturday's clinic in Vero Beach.

A commission statement says participants will not only learn a new hobby, they'll also learn how to appreciate the marine environment with basics of stewardship, fishing ethics, angling skills, safety and the vulnerability of Florida's marine ecosystems.

Lessons include knot tying, cast netting, rod and reel rigging, boating safety, how to be a responsible marine resource steward, marine fish and habitat identification, catch-and-release techniques and more.

Fishing equipment and bait will be provided during the clinics, but participants are encouraged to bring their own gear.
