Joe Hellriegel joined the Eyewitness News team in December 2013 as a multi-media journalist, working out of the Valdosta, Georgia Bureau. Joe moved over to the Eyewitness Sports team in July 2014.
Joe joins us from the coal fields of West Virginia where he worked at WOAY-TV in Oak Hill as a reporter. During his time in the Mountain State, he covered stories such as the New River Gorge “Bridge Day” and the National Boy Scout Jamboree, as well as the declining economy of the coal industry.
Originally from Jacksonville, Florida, Joe earned his bachelor’s degree in Electronic Media from the University of North Florida in December 2012. In his time there, he covered the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars and other area sports teams as the UNF-TV Sports Director. He is also a proud member of the FL NU Chapter of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity.
Joe will always be a UNF Osprey but was born and raised a Gator fan and can’t help but to root for the Orange and Blue on Saturdays. If you have any story ideas for Joe to cover, don’t hesitate to e-mail him at Joe.Hellriegel@WCTV.tv.
