8am-5pm

2131 Jackson Bluff Rd, Tallahassee
a week-end long indoor thrift store fundraiser for Goose Creek Wildlife Sanctuary. it will take place rain or shine. We are accepting donations and we’ll take just about anything. We accept all sorts of furniture, clothes, toys, pet items, household goods, tchotchkes, and anything in between. We start collecting from students, in particular, in mid-summer before move-outs when so many usable items end up on the curbs and are destroyed by summer rains, but accept any donations up until the days of the sale. We help ‘green the streets’ to raise a little ‘green’ for our injured, orphaned and displaced green space inhabitants”

Rather than throwing away or storing usable but unwanted items, simply donate them to the Cheeps Boutique. All donations are tax deductible, and all proceeds go to the Goose Creek Wildlife Sanctuary. Funds are used to improve the quality of life for sick, displaced and injured native wildlife.

Emotions can be internal cues to eat inappropriately. Many people learn to use food to make themselves feel less frustrated, bored, anxious, or depressed. There are times that food may also be used when a person feels happy and wants to celebrate. Whether the emotion is negative or positive, using food when you are not hungry is considered emotional eating. We will be discussing the difference between emotional and physical hunger, how to manage cues/triggers, stress management skill, and tips on how to eat mindfully.

LBH Color Walk
For A CAUSE
at FSUS in Southwood!

“Every Heart has a story...Every story has the potential to inspire.” LBH plans to give the community of Tallahassee a mega platform to share their story with masses. In the past, LiveBlackHeart has created and participated in events that were focused on bringing awareness to causes such as pancreatic cancer and breast cancer. However, CEO, Calvin Dennis aspires to shed light on all organizations that help those who need it most by involving the entire community of Tallahassee.
Walk For A Cause will encompass all social awareness organizations that involve the medical community. All families and faculty members of FSUS and the Southwood community are encouraged to participate as well as local chapters of IFC, Pan-Hellenic, and NPHC greek-lettered organizations. The aforementioned organizations all have community awareness associations that could be represented at the walk. Each social awareness group usually has a color associated with their brand; breast cancer is pink, AIDS is red, etc. To participate in the walk, event ambassadors will have the option of purchasing a t-shirt, sweatshirt, or hoodie with the color that represents their cause. Participants who purchase a t-shirt will donate $5 to the organization of their choice, $7 for participants who purchase sweatshirts, and $10 dollars for participants who purchase hoodies.
Local businesses and national awareness campaigns will be targeted for sponsorship arrangements. Sponsors will be represented in all print related advertisements, a memorabilia booklet, promotional paraphernalia to be distributed at the walk, and their company’s banner will hang along the fence located inside of the track. All local news media networks will be invited to witness a community come together to raise awareness in the most fashionable way!

ASF works hand-in-hand with the Shelter to provide veterinary care beyond the Shelter’s resources or abilities to rescue animals in need, to aggressively promote spay and neuter, and to encourage responsible pet ownership.
Each year the Animal Shelter takes in almost 9,000 animals that are homeless, but due to the overabundance of animals and lack of open households, some of these animals will never see a home. One-hundred percent of the funds raised at this event will go directly to ASF.

Stephen Foster Festival of Lights

Dec. 2nd- Jan.1st Dusk till 9pm

Stephen Foster State Park in White Springs, FL
Over 4 Million Lights and a Winter Wonderland with real SNOW!
Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park will host the Festival of Lights, displaying more than four million lights throughout the park, December 2 – 31, 2011 each evening until 9:00 p.m., closed Christmas Night, December 25.

Visitors can enjoy the holiday sights and sounds as they drive through the park to see unique holiday light displays, including the majestic oak trees adorned with thousands of lights, an antebellum Museum dressed in full holiday splendor and a gingerbread village located at the Gift Shop and Craft Square. The centerpiece of the park’s light display is the Carillon Tower, which illuminates the night sky standing more than 200 feet tall, dressed from head to toe in lights as holiday music rings from its bells. The Stephen Foster Museum will be open extended hours until 8:30 p.m. nightly. Cousin Thelma Boltin’s Gift Shop will be open everyday until 9:00 p.m. where complimentary refreshments are served and the Craft Square comes alive with a bonfire and marshmallow roast for everyone. Wolverine Concessions will also feature delicious treats including favorites such as hot chili, hand made potato chips and their world famous fried Oreos!

Live holiday music will be performed at the Stephen Foster Museum nightly from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. If any school groups, church choirs or other musical groups would like to perform, they should contact Diane Simmons at 386-397-2733 for more information.

Santa will visit the park every evening through December 24th and will make appearances throughout the entire park during the festival.

Visitors can experience the festival via horse drawn wagon and carriage rides. Two large beautiful Percheron Horses will pull a large wagon on a one mile ride around the main park drive each evening. Take a leisurely 20 minute ride through the park and sing carols while viewing the millions of lights on display!

To celebrate the park’s award-winning light display, a special kickoff event hosted in conjunction with the Town of White Springs will take place on Friday, December 2, 2011, at 5:30 p.m. The Town of White Springs’ Christmas Parade travels down Main Street and continues through the gates of the Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park. Everyone attending is invited to a free hot dog supper with cookies in the park’s Nelly Bly’s Kitchen. Regular park admission fees are waived for this Grand Opening kickoff event, but a donation of at least one new, unwrapped toy is requested per vehicle which will be used to help local families in need.

Park entrance fees for this event will be $2.00 per person.
