The original InkStains project was to write a complete story a day, with only one day off per month, for a year – by hand with a fountain pen. It sounds tough, don’t you think? But there’s nothing preventing you from starting your own variation of an InkStains project – in any art form.
It only requires patience, confidence and persistence
Author Bio:
John Urbancik’s first novel, SINS OF BLOOD AND STONE, was released in 2002. He’s been in hiding ever since, though reports have him in places as disparate as the wilds of northern Florida and the arctic rainforests of Tasmania. The latest collection is TALES OF THE FANTASTIC AND THE PHANTASMAGORIC. His current project, INKSTAINS, is a story a day every day for a year – written by hand – and is in its second year.

Big Bend Hospice hosts Living, Loving, Leaving this Life: Thought-provoking conversations about the end-of-life.

Date(s): 8/27/2015

6PM

BIg Bend Hospice - 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308
Big Bend Hospice is hosting an opportunity for community discussion around the recent national debate on death with dignity. The debate was spurred by the passionate plea of Brittany Maynard, a twenty-nine year old woman who was diagnosed with a stage four glioblastoma multiform brain tumor. Brittany moved to Oregon from California in order to take advantage of assisted-suicide laws. She joined Compassion and Choices to share her story in hopes of legalizing aid in dying for all Americans. Maggie Karner, a fifty-one year old mother of three who is also living with a stage four glioblastoma, responded to Brittany’s choice with an open-letter she read to Brittany that went viral on You Tube. We will watch these brief videos on either side of the issue and open the floor for discussion on August 27 at 6:00 at Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, Florida, 32317. Please enter the front building and proceed to the Conference Room. We will provide popcorn and lemonade and conclude by 7:30. Hope to see you there!

Daily showtimes at ChallengerTLH.com

Tallahassee
Jean-Michel Cousteau, son of ocean pioneer Jacques Cousteau, offers a breakthrough look at a secret world within the ocean that is perhaps the biggest story of all—that the smallest life in the sea is the mightiest force on which we all depend. Alongside marine biologist Holly Lohuis, he invites viewers to dive into this whole new world that will leave them in awe of the beauty and diversity of the oceans – the source of all life on our planet – and inspire an even stronger desire to protect what they have either seen for the first time or perhaps re-discovered along the journey. Narrated by renowned oceanographer Dr. Sylvia Earle, “Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Secret Ocean 3D” introduces audiences to over 30 species, illuminating behaviors captured for the first time thanks to the development of new tools that allow underwater filming in 3D, ultra-HD 5K, slow motion, macro, and with motion control, and takes them to remarkable and vibrant environments such as the Bahamas, Fiji, and Bimini.

August Local Authors Book Signing

Date(s): 8/15/2015

11am - 1pm

My Favorite Books, Market Square - 1415 Timberlane Rd STE 313, Tallahassee FL 32312
We will be having two authors in the store on Saturday, August 15th.

"THE LIBYAN", a memoir, is Esther Kofod's debut book. Esther was married to the Foreign Advisor to Muammar Ghaddafi and Chairman of the Strategic Studies Center in Tripoli, Libya and lived in Libya for five years before being forced to leave for political reasons. "THE LIBYAN" is a captivating memoir sweeping four continents and several decades on a journey of passion, terror, and betrayal. It puts a face on the lives and culture of Libya and Libyans during the early years of the ruthless dictator, Muammar Ghaddafi.

Robert L. Parke is a retired police officer and private investigator. He works part time as a security officer for a local, Tallahassee college sorority where he was inspired to write "Staying Safe in an Unsafe World". This book is a guide with tips and techniques to protect oneself and learn to stay out of danger. These are important skills for women entering the world on their own for the first time.

Please come and support these fine local authors.

1PM until 3PM.

1009 Commercial Drive, Tallahassee, FL 32310
Want to learn how to create 3D models that can be printed on a 3D printer? Making Awesome has announced a Blender class. This class, taught over four Saturdays, will teach you how to use Blender, a professional-level, open-source 3D modeling and animation suite to design, render and print your own 3D creations on a 3D printer. Each 2 hour class will consist of an hour of instruction and an hour of coaching. The class will be taught by the talented Kenyon Bertelsen. On the final class day, Making Awesome's 3D printer guru, Brad Harris, will be there to help students print their models and to answer questions about the 3D printers.
The class runs from 1PM until 3PM starting on August 15th, and continuing on August 22nd, August 29th, and September 5th.
Participants will need to bring a laptop capable of installing Blender, and with sufficient space. For Windows users, Blender requires Windows, 7, 8 or Vista. For Macintosh users, Blender requires MacOS 10.6 or above. If you're using a Linux laptop, most recent versions will work, however, you will need to install glibc 2.11. For more information on system requirements for running Blender, visit http://www.blender.org/download/.
The class is open to makers age 12 and up. Kids under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Space in this class is limited and available on a first come basis. Cost for the four session class is $40 for Making Awesome paid members, and $60 for non-members. Our ticket processor adds a small fee to the cost of each registration.
