PANAMA CITY, FL (January 21, 2015) – Panama City Startup Weekend is slated for February 20-22, 2015. Local businesses are teaming with the Business Innovation Center to bring the event back to Panama City. Last year’s inaugural event was a great success and the organizer’s for this year’s event have set high marks for another tremendous success. The 54-hour event kicks on Friday, February 20, 6:30 p.m. at the Advanced Technology Center (ATC). Startup Weekend is powered by Google for Entrepreneurs with Coca Cola as a Global sponsor, along with .co and Amazon Web Services as Global Technology sponsors. Typically, half of Startup Weekend’s attendees have business backgrounds, the other half have technical or design backgrounds. Beginning with open mic pitches on Friday, attendees bring their best ideas and inspire others to join their teams. On Saturday and Sunday, teams focus on product development, proof of concept, lean startup methodologies, and a viable product. On Sunday evening, teams demo their prototypes and receive feedback from a panel of experts, plus a chance to win prizes ranging from cash to a one-year virtual membership at a local business incubator.

Description of Manley Manor: Manley Manor is a well-kept secret in Tallahassee. A music enthusiast, Mike Manley, gives the opportunity for artists who are on tour and coming through Tallahassee to perform a low key and fun night in an intimate setting. Performance goers bring blankets and folded chairs, wine and their favorite beer to cozy up to a small stage in the back of Mike's home. The venue is located on a small dirt road off of Miccosukee Road on the Northeast side of Tallahassee. 1806 Littleton Circle- [there may be a bonfire if it is chilly that night]

Rob Talbert and Jenny Sadre-Orafai Poetry Reading

Date(s): 2/26/2015

7pm

The Warehouse, 706 West Gaines Street, Tallahassee
Rob Talbert’s first full-length poetry book, Jagged Tune (MadHat Press, 2015) is inspired by his life growing up in the sweltering heat of San Antonio and spent most nights playing in bands or dancing in nightclubs. He has worked in jails, bars, corporate offices, hotels, universities, hospitals, retail stores, restaurants and on cruise ships—experiences that informed his blue-collar, transgressive writing style.
In 2010 he received his Masters of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing from Virginia Tech University. He now teaches at Florida State University, where he is currently working on his Ph.D.
Rob’s poems have appeared in Alaska Quarterly, The American Poetry Review, Ninth Leter, Painted Bride Quarterly, Passages North, Southern Poetry Review, Sou'wester and on Verse Daily. He lives in Tallahassee with his wife, Samantha.

Jenny Sadre-Orafai is the author of the full-length poetry collection Paper, Cotton, Leather (Press 53, 2014) and four poetry chapbooks. Recent poetry has appeared or is forthcoming in Tammy, Linebreak, Redivider, Eleven Eleven, Thrush Poetry Journal, PANK, Rhino, Sixth Finch, ILK, iO: A Journal of New American Poetry, and Poemeleon. Recent prose has appeared in The Rumpus, The Toast, and Los Angeles Review. She is co-founding editor of Josephine Quarterly and an Associate Professor of English at Kennesaw State University in Georgia.
Jenny has performed her work live in cities like Atlanta, Austin, Birmingham, Chattanooga, Chicago, Cincinnati, Honolulu, Knoxville, Montreal, New Orleans, San Antonio, Seattle, St. Louis, and Washington D.C.

December 19, 2014-December 19, 2015

Challenger Learning Center of Tallahassee
Starting on Friday, December 19, experience an adventure of giant proportions at the Challenger Learning Center. "Tiny Giants 3D" reveals the astonishing lives of the smallest of animals on the big screen.

Using the incredibly immersive power of specialist 3D cameras, audiences are transported in a very intimate way into another world to experience the titanic battles these creatures face to survive.

A chipmunk in a wild wood and a grasshopper mouse in Arizona’s scorched deserts are both forced to grow up fast when they find themselves alone for the first time. Only by using their ingenious superpowers can our heroes not only stay alive, but also become masters of their universe.
