8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

City of Tallahassee Solid Waste Services, 2727 Municipal Way, Tallahassee, FL 32301
Get a leg up on your spring cleaning with the City of Tallahassee’s biannual Cash for Trash event this Saturday, April 18, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cash for Trash allows City residential utility customers to bring household trash items that are too large to fit in their 96-gallon garbage container to the Solid Waste Services facility on Municipal Way for proper disposal. As a thank you for participating in Saturday’s event, City residential utility customers will receive $5 off their utility bill.

To receive the credit, residential customers utilizing the program must present a City utility bill before unloading materials. Customers can make multiple trips, however only one credit per utility bill will be provided. This allows customers disposing of items for their neighbors to do so and assist them in reaping the benefits of the Cash for Trash program.

For the first time in movie history, audiences will truly see and feel what it was like when dinosaurs ruled the Earth.

Recent discoveries and a breakthrough in technology will introduce new and unique dinosaurs that are more real than ever before and put moviegoers in the middle of a thrilling prehistoric adventure, where an underdog dinosaur triumphs against all odds to become a hero for the ages.

Our main characters are a herd of large, frilled, plant eating dinosaurs – Pachyrhinosaurus. The film follows their youngsters through the seasons and the challenges of growing up and establishing themselves in this prehistoric world. From the moment they hatch, they face predators, extremes of weather and natural disaster as they fight for survival.
Walking with Dinosaurs: Prehistoric Planet 3D is an immersive 3D experience – the characters are animated throughout against real backgrounds. It’s the most authentic dinosaur experience ever to be seen on the giant screen. The animals’ bodies and movements have been precisely built up from fossil evidence and their behavior is derived from both paleontology and detailed knowledge of the behavior of modern animals. Even their body language has been inspired by what we know of real animal behavior and gives these creatures an amazing realism.

Slavery By Another Name

1:00pm

Knott House Museum, Tallahassee
Join the Knott House Museum for a free screening of the historical documentary, Slavery by Another Name. Based on the Pulitzer-Prize-winning book by Douglas Blackmon, Slavery By Another Name tells the stories of men, charged with crimes like vagrancy, and often guilty of nothing, who were bought and sold, abused, and subject to sometimes deadly working conditions as unpaid convict labor. Interviews with the descendants of victims and perpetrators resonate with a modern audience.
The film is part of the Created Equal Film series from the National Endowment for the Humanities. The Tallahassee showings are a collaboration between the John. G. Riley Museum, the Museum of Florida History, the Florida Historic Capitol Museum and the Knott House Museum. The series is sponsored by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Freedom Riders ties directly into the Civil Rights in the Sunshine State exhibit. People can pre-order lunch from the Egg or bring their own lunches for the noontime discussion in the Gallery for Innovation and the Arts.
