The Florida Army National Guard's Command Post will host the 4th Annual Robert A. Wise Chili Cook Off on February 13th. The community is invited to participate in the event by entering the cook off contest or by attending the event to taste the recipes.
Held in memory of a local soldier who gave all for his nation, this event honors all that have served and sacrificed. Event proceeds will benefit Honor Flight Tallahassee and the Collegiate Veterans Association at FSU.
The entry fee for a team is $20 and participants are encouraged to register early. Entry forms and complete rules can be found at the 4th Annual Robert Wise Chili Cook Off page on Facebook or by emailing commandpostforward@gmail.com. Cash prizes or trophies will be awarded in several categories.
Admission is $10 in advance or $12 on the day of the event. Ticket includes chili and two beverages (beer, water or soda.) Kids 12 and under are free.
We will also have some sports on TV, music and kid’s activities.

Sacred Harp Singing (also called “fa so la” or shape note singing) dates back to colonial times and has been preserved in the rural south. The singing is not accompanied by harp or other instruments, but is an old style of singing acappella from shape notes. It is a non-denominational community musical event that emphasizes on participation. All are encouraged to bring a covered dish.

Museum of Florida History’s 33rd Annual Children’s Day. The Museum hosts an entire day of free performances, exhibitors, and history. This year’s theme is “Racing through History” to coincide with the Museum’s exciting Florida auto racing exhibit. Enjoy live performances by the Tallahassee Ballet, the Young Actors Theatre, the Trousdale dance teams, and others. Also, the popular Dr. Sound’s Music Clinic and the BJ’s Party House face painting are back again this year. Dozens of exhibitors offer hands-on learning. Other activities include paper tube race cars, personalized button making, balloon bracelets, animal bingo, golf, and more. Parking and admission are free. Ticket holders will have the opportunity to meet both Coach Bowden and Peter Boulware in a limited ticketed event and have a professional photograph taken and have 2 items autographed (these items are not provided by the event, they must be the personal items of the ticket holder). Ticket holders are also welcome to attend the banquet that follows the Meet-and-Greet event at no addtional charge, which includes a talk from Coach Bowden, dinner, and a silent and live auction.

Coach Bobby Bowden is the winningest coach in NCAA Division 1 football history. He coached FSU to more than 300 victories, two national championships, 12 Atlantic Coast Conference titles, finishing in the top five in the country in 14 straight seasons, and led the FSU Seminoles to bowl games in 28 consecutive seasons during his 34-year tenure.

As a player for Coach Bobby Bowden's FSU Seminole football team from 1993 to 1996, Peter Boulware was an ACC defensive player of the year and a national defensive player of the year and a 1993 National Champion. He went on to play for the Baltimore Ravens from 1997-2006, and was the NFL defensive rookie of the year, led the nation in sacks, was a 4-time Pro-Bowler, an AFC champion and Super Bowl Champion 2000. He was recently inducted into the Baltimore Ravens Ring of Honor.

TAPP Rain Garden Workshop

The Collins Main Library is hosting a series of free introductory computer classes in the Gates Computer Lab. These classes will familiarize participants with mouse use (January 14), the Internet (January 21) and email (January 28). Community members are invited to attend one, two or all of these classes. Classes are suited for beginners. No registration necessary.

All Pro Dad Father & Kids Experience

Tallahassee-area fathers and children will have the opportunity to enjoy a morning at Florida State University, as the All Pro Dad Father & Kids Experience provides fathers with fun and inspirational opportunities to strengthen their relationships with their kids. The family event will include tips, interactive games and hands-on experiences designed to motivate each father to become an All Pro Dad!
