Leon County EMS "Press the Chest" 2016

Event Dates and Times

6/11/2016 - Starts: 9:45 AM - Ends: 12:00 PM
Donald L. Tucker Civic Center
If your loved one collapsed in front of you from sudden cardiac arrest, would you know what to do? Each year in the U.S. EMS treats nearly 400,000 people who suffer sudden cardiac arrest at home, at work, or in public locations. Providing CPR and an AED (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Automated External Defibrillator) to an adult who has collapsed from cardiac arrest can more than double that person’s chance of survival.

In Leon County, only 20% of cardiac arrest victims receive CPR from bystanders prior to EMS arrival. That’s only one in five people. Without immediate, effective CPR from a bystander, a person’s chance of surviving sudden cardiac arrest decreases up to 10 percent per minute.

Join Leon County EMS for “Press the Chest” a free community CPR training event being held on Saturday, June 11th, from 10 a.m. - noon at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center.

We will be teaching the recommendations the American Heart Association developed in 2010 of
C-A-B (Compressions-Airway-Breathing) along with the new emphasis on “Hands-Only CPR” as well as AED use and choking techniques. This is not a certification event.

Each participant of “Press the Chest” CPR 2016 will receive an American Heart Association personal “CPR Anytime” kit which contains a CPR manikin, DVD, and educational materials and supplies. These kits are for the participant to keep and they are encouraged to train family and friends.

To register for “Press the Chest” CPR 2016, go to www.leoncountyfl.gov/LCEMS or contact Capt. Sally Davis at (850) 606-2100.

Huka Entertainment presents Rockstar Energy Drink Taste of Chaos Tour featuring Dashboard confessional, Taking Back Sunday, Saosin, The Early November

Event Dates and Times

6/26/2016 - Starts: 6:30 PM
The Pavillion at the Centre of Tallahassee
A room full of music and people isn't so strange. The trick is filling the spaces in between. When truth finds a melody, strangers disappear, and suddenly everyone belongs. And Chris Carrabba knows how to fill a room better than anyone.
He can call it luck, but for more than a decade now, Dashboard Confessional has cultivated the kind of connection with fans that most songwriters spend a lifetime pursuing. Since the release of Swiss Army Romance in 2000, Carrabba's fearless honesty has inspired fierce loyalty from anyone seeking truth in music. You cannot fake the truth. You can't even hide from it. So the best songwriters dive deeply into it, coming out the other side armed with sing-a-long anthems."Music is all things to me," Carrabba says. "It's a respite from real life, but it's also a place contemplate and begin to understand what you're going through. Music can clarify how things are affecting you."

Huka Entertainment presents Steve Miller Band

Event Dates and Times

7/20/2016 - Starts: 7:00 PM
The Pavillion at the Centre of Tallahassee
Steve Miller was a mainstay of the San Francisco music scene that upended
American culture in the late '60s. With albums like Children of the Future,
Sailor and Brave New World, Miller perfected a psychedelic blues sound that
drew on the deepest sources of American roots music and simultaneously
articulated a compelling vision of what music-and society-could be in the years to
come.
Then, in the '70s, Miller crafted a brand of rock 'n' roll music that was polished,
exciting and irresistible, and that has dominated radio through today. Hit
followed hit in an endless flow: "The Joker," "Livin' in the USA," "Take the Money
and Run," "Rock'n Me," "Fly Like an Eagle," "Jet Airliner," "Jungle Love," and
"Abracadabra" among them. To this day, these songs are instantly recognizable
when they come on the radio-and impossible not to sing along with.
Running through Miller's catalogue is a combination of virtuosity and songcraft
along with melodic vocals and signature guitar riffs. His parents were jazz
aficionados -- Les Paul was his godfather -- so as a budding guitarist and singer,
Miller absorbed valuable lessons from their musical tradition. When the family
moved to Texas, Miller deepened his education in the blues, meeting T-Bone
Walker and learning to sing and play listening to him and Jimmy Reed. Miller
then moved to Chicago where he played with Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf,
Lightnin' Hopkins, Buddy Guy and Paul Butterfield.

Thomas County Museum of History, 725 N. Dawson Street, Thomasville, GA
Introducing Camp Dawson!
This year we’re adding a few new twists to the perennial favorite, Time Travelers Club History Camp. Have no fear, our revamped Camp Dawson is rooted in the same activities and themes that have inspired and engaged Thomas County campers for nearly 20 years, just with a little added museum mischief and adventure. In addition to our traditional hands-on history-based activities, we want to engage our campers in new explorations of the community around us. We are embracing the elements of S.T.E.A.H.M: Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, History, and Math that can be found and applied in our own backyard about our community’s evolution.

Campers will progress through Thomas County history, starting with the Native Americans and work their way up to the 20th-Century using resources available here at the Museum and in our surrounding neighborhood, including the Lapham-Patterson House. We’ll explore what makes Thomasville and Thomas County unique while putting ourselves in the place of past Thomasvillians. We hope that you’ll join us June 6-10, 2016 for a week of adventure and discovery! Fees: $100, Members, $125 Non-Members. Includes all craft supplies, camp shirt, and snack daily
Camp registration information will be mailed to members of the Thomas County Historical Society soon. At that time, rising 3rd through 6th graders may register for both Camp Dawson. To join or renew your membership, please visit thomascountyhistory.org/join. Priority registration will be given to members of the Historical Society and will open to the public soon after.

“A Beautiful Planet 3D” in IMAX 3D

Event Dates and Times

4/29/2016 - 7/29/2016
Challenger Learning Center of Tallahassee, 200 S Duval Street, Tallahassee, FL 32301
Starting on Friday, April 29, experience a breathtaking portrait of Earth from space, providing a unique perspective and increased understanding of our planet and galaxy as never seen before. Made in cooperation with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the film features stunning footage of our magnificent blue planet — and the effects humanity has had on it over time — captured by the astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS). From space, Earth blazes at night with the electric intensity of human expansion — a direct visualization of our changing world. But it is within our power to protect the planet. As we continue to explore and gain knowledge of our galaxy, we also develop a deeper connection to the place we all call home. From IMAX Entertainment and Toni Myers — the acclaimed filmmaker behind celebrated IMAX® documentaries Blue Planet, Hubble 3D, and Space Station 3D — A Beautiful Planet presents an awe-inspiring glimpse of Earth and a hopeful look into the future of humanity.

“A Beautiful Planet 3D” will play daily for three months. For more information and showtimes, visit www.ChallengerTLH.com.

Challenger Learning Center of Tallahassee; 200 S Duval St Tallahassee, FL 32301
Starting on Friday, October 16, get a sneak peek into the future of robots. “Robots 3D” is a fascinating and fun look at what makes us human, how far machines can really go to look and act like us, and how humanoids are already changing our world.
Today's robots are nothing short of astonishing. Those coming in the not-too-distant future are simply revolutionary—and they are becoming eerily like us.
What does it take to make a humanoid robot—a robot that can do anything we can do without the benefit of a human brain? How close are scientists to replicating some of the particularly challenging human characteristics? (Think fingers and toes.) These questions and more are answered as robot “actor” RoboThespian takes audiences on an amazing tour of what’s going on in robotics labs around the world.

‘On Golden Pond’ Play in Cairo

Event Dates and Times

Zebulon Theatre 207 N Broad St Cairo, GA 39828
The Syrup City Players will open their 2014 Season with Ernest Thompson’s ‘On Golden Pond’, directed by Jeff Lovett, on Friday-Sunday, March 28-30th at the Zebulon Theater in Downtown Cairo. This is one of the funniest and most heartwarming plays to ever take the stage. The play was also made into a very popular movie in 1981 which won Academy Awards for Henry Fonda and Katherine Fonda. ‘On Golden Pond’ begins with the arrival of an old, long-married couple to their lakeside cottage where they have summered for 44 years. They are estranged from their only daughter, Chelsea, who comes to the cottage to celebrate her father’s 80th birthday. Chelsea announces that she and her new boyfriend are taking a trip to Europe and ask the old couple to watch the man’s teenaged son why they are gone. Ethel and Norman agree and the experience teaches the old man how to trust and communicate with his daughter. ‘On Golden Pond’ will be presented on Friday, March 28th and Saturday, March 29th at 7:30pm and on Sunday, March 30th at 2:30pm. Advanced tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for Seniors/Students and are on sale at Miss Myrts and Center Drugs in Cairo. All tickets at the door will be $12.
