“Genealogy 101 – How to Get Started” Workshop

This 90-minute workshop is for anyone who has started, or is thinking of starting to research their family history. The workshop will provide guidance on: How to get organized; Setting your research goal(s); Identifying what you know, and what you don't know; and How and where to start looking for your ancestors.

Guardian ad Litem Volunteer Training

Guardians ad Litem are citizens who volunteer to represent children before the court, social service agencies, and the community. Volunteers are trained and supervised by program staff, including attorneys. On average, Guardians ad Litem devote approximately 8-10 hours a month and create relationships that can make a huge impact on children’s lives. To become a guardian ad litem, you must be at least twenty-one years old and pass a criminal background. Young adults nineteen or twenty years old may become certified and are allowed to work under the guidance of and in partnership with a guardian ad litem twenty-one or above. You must complete a total of 30-hours of pre-service training program to be certified, which includes independent study, classroom training, and field work.

In this three-part series learn how to turn your board's passion into action! It is the workshop series that every Executive Director and board member will wants in order to build a vibrant leadership circle.

Module one covers necessary elements to a healthy and dynamic board. Learning objectives for this module include

•Roles and responsibilities of the board
•Strategic Planning
Module two explores the various financial responsibilities of boards. Do your board members know how to effectively read your organizations financial statements? It is a critical part of being an effective board member.. This workshop will teach you:
•Understand compliance with IRS regulations
•What to look for in your organizations 990, audit, and financial statements
•Warning signs for financial trouble in nonprofit organizations
•How the public views nonprofit financial information.
Module 3 is an edge-of-your-seat morning and TA session with national fundraising guru Gail Perry. Gail Perry, MBA, CFRE, is an international fundraising consultant, trend-spotter, speaker, trainer and thought-leader. She has worked with literally thousands of board members, nonprofit leaders and fundraising staff to boost them with the fundraising skills and inspiration to change the world. Her book, Fired-Up Fundraising: Turn Board Passion into Action (Wiley/AFP) has been called the “gold standard guide to building successful fundraising boards.”

In your morning (9:00 AM - 12:00 PM!) with Gail, you will get a real-world education on how to fire-up your board and motivate your board members to take action in fundraising. Beautiful handmade and machine sewn fiber artworks are on display at the annual quilt show at the Museum of Florida History. The show is organized by Quilters Unlimited of Tallahassee and is in its 33rd year. Awards are given in various categories, including a yearly “Challenge Quilt” theme. The theme this year is “Starry Starry Night.” Visitors can vote for their favorite quilt, take part in a silent auction, or talk to the quilters in the exhibit.
