Event Dates and Times

8/27/2013 - Starts: 4:30 PM - Ends: 7:30 PM
The Florida Historic Capitol Museum
Join us for the exhibit opening reception for Choosing to Participate: The Power of Civic Engagement, on August 27, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Florida Historic Capitol Museum. Choosing to Participate was developed through the partnership of the Smithsonian Traveling Exhibition Service and Facing History and Ourselves. This event is free and open to the public. Drinks and hors d'oeuvres will be served.
Be a participant in the forum discussion Engaged, Not Enraged - Civility, Politics, and Civic Engagement from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. During this program, presenters and participants will explore the significance of civility in our social and political interactions, discern the impact and influence of incivility, and examine avenues for effectively engaging in public life.
Explore the impact civic organizations have had in Florida and the programs that strive to promote civic education and engagement amongst Florida students. See firsthand how students in Florida feel about the importance of civic participation and being active participants in their communities. The eleven featured posters highlight the choice between being a participating upstander or a passive bystander in our communities. They remind us that no action to improve society is too small.
