10th Annual Cufflinks and Pearls Applause for the Pioneers Gala
8:00 PM- 11:00 PM
Goodwood Museums & Gardens Carriage House, 1600 Miccosukee Road, Tallahassee, Florida
The Riley Museum cordially invites the community to join in supporting 10th Annual Cufflinks and Pearls Applause for the Pioneers Gala. This year’s Gala will take place on Friday, February 28, 2013 from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 pm at the Carriage House, Goodwood Museum and Gardens, 1600 Miccosukee Road, Tallahassee, Florida. Honorary Chairpersons include: Mr. Mark O’Bryant, President and CEO of Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, Dr. Larry Robinson Interim President of Florida A&M University along with State Representative Alan Williams.
The purpose of the Pioneers Gala is to pay tribute to individuals who by a tangible act or creation have been community trailblazers, going before, preparing the way for others and leaving a legacy in the development of Tallahassee’s history. All proceeds from the event are used in support of the John G. Riley Internship Fund.
The 2014 Gala Committee has chosen to pay tribute, posthumously, to the legacy of Dr. Russell L. Anderson. In 1957, he established the Anderson/Brickler Medical Clinic at 1705 South Adams Street. Dr. Anderson was also the medical director of the Florida A&M University Hospital, a position that he held until the age of 65. During his lifetime, he would say “You do the best you can. And if you’re good enough, you’ll always find a place” when he experienced prejudice. He always looked for another way if a door was closed to him. In 1991, at age 84, Anderson passed away, but his legacy remains.
As the founder of the Anderson/Brickler Medical Clinic, Dr. Anderson and his family demonstrated their long term contributions to the community. As well, the hope and intent is to inspire others, especially the younger generation, to “cherish the legacy of entrepreneurship” and family tradition. We find no one more deserving or representative of this tribute than Dr. Russell Anderson and his family.
Individuals, businesses and organizations are encouraged to support these pioneers and fundraising efforts of the Annual Gala by purchasing tables or individual tickets as follows: $1,000 for a full table (seats 8); $500 for a half table (seats 4); $250 for couples and single tickets are $125 each.
