Emancipation Day Celebration

The Knott House and the John G. Riley Museum commemorate the announcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in Tallahassee with this annual event. The original declaration was made from the Knott House on May 20, 1865. The event features a reading of the document, reenactors, period music, and a picnic in Lewis Park. The event is sponsored by the City of Tallahassee; Hopping, Green, and Sams, P.A.; and Tallahassee Downtown. The event is free and open to the public.
