Valdosta, GA -- Valdosta State’s Brittany Ferguson has excelled on the court all season, leading the Gulf South Conference in Player of the Week awards. She has consistently been one of the best players in the conference throughout the season, but her latest award shows she has been one of the best students in the GSC as well.

Ferguson was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America’s Capital One Academic All-District women’s basketball team. Ferguson was the only Gulf South Conference player to make the list while the other four players were all from the Sunshine State Conference.

Ferguson’s 3.50 grade point average in middle grades education helped her win the award that now makes her eligible to be named to the Academic All-America list as well as her excellent performance on the court.

She is currently averaging 17.1 points and 8.1 rebounds per game and has been even better in conference play (17.3 ppg, 8.7 rpg). Ferguson is second in the GSC in double-doubles this season and had her best game against Alabama-Huntsville, Thursday’s opponent, with 27 points and 19 rebounds on January 12.

Ferguson is top five in the Gulf South Conference in scoring (second), rebounding (fifth) and steals (third),

Come support one of the best student-athletes in the GSC as she leads Valdosta State against Alabama-Huntsville at 6 p.m. Thursday and North Alabama at 6 p.m. Saturday.
