New Warning System for Severe Weather

The warnings will highlight more specific geographic areas that may be affected by floods, tornadoes, severe thunderstorms and marine hazards. Advisories used to be issued for entire counties, but the new system will allow forecasters to narrow down the threat. Officials at the Weather Service say this may save lives, time and money. The storm-based warnings will also be highly adaptable to new technologies offered by cell phones, PDAs, and the web.
