If any of us had the power to wish destructive hurricanes away from land, we probably would. Scientists are one step closer to making that happen.
Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology want to scatter carbon particles that come from either soot or small chunks from tires on top of hurricanes.
They believe these particles can change the intensity or track of the storm by absorbing solar radiation.
Other scientists are skeptical of the findings and warn that lawsuits could fly if one area sustains more damage than another because of the change in track.
