NASA astronauts are completing a three-day project that will set the stage for an expansion of the International Space Station.
They added a giant, 17-ton solar panel that will act to power the upcoming additions of the European and Japanese research labs. The mission has not gone without its share of problems. The astronauts are also troubleshooting malfunctioning rotary joints, which keep the solar panels facing toward the sun.
NASA has added an extra day to the mission so that the astronauts can fix the problem. The shuttle is now expected to arrive home on November 7.
