We're coming up on a date that many people will not soon forget.
It was 22 years ago on November 22, 1985 when Hurricane Kate made landfall near Apalachicola and paved a path of destruction through North Florida and South Georgia. Kate weakened to a tropical storm by the time it reached Tallahassee, but even those winds in our heavily-wooded area caused power outages for weeks. Since Kate, only the March Superstorm of 1993 and Hurricane Dennis in July 2004 caused as much or more damage along the coast.
