The official numbers are in, and 2007 came in as the tenth warmest on record in the United States.

Scientists at the National Climatic Data Center say the warming is part of a three decade period when the temperature has increased about one-half degree per decade. The average U.S. temperature was 54.2 degrees Fahrenheit during the past calendar year. The warmer conditions lead to an overall reduction in energy usage. According to NOAA scientists, the consumption of energy at the residential level was about 2.5 percent below average.
