The loss of credit card information and other personal data caused online privacy concerns to increase in 2007.

Those are the results of a new survey by the University of Southern California, which report 61-percent of Americans were very or extremely concerned about the privacy of personal information online. That's up from just 47-percent in 2006. Data breaches from lost or stolen computer equipment are most common, but the largest breach was perpetrated by a hacker. Newer internet users and those who typically do not shop online have the greatest worries according to the study.
