Hazardous Weather Awareness Week in Florida and Georgia

We're enjoying sunny skies and warm temperatures now, but officials are asking everyone to prepare for the day when severe weather hits.

This week is hazardous weather awareness week in Florida and Georgia. Each day, the states asks their residents to review safety rules and procedures to protect against natural phenomenon that can cost people their lives.

Activities will culminate in a statewide tornado drill Wednesday morning, weather permitting.

Update: The statewide tornado drill has been cancelled on Wednesday because of the threat for severe weather on that day in both Florida and Georgia. The drill has been rescheduled for Friday, February 8.

Stay tuned to WCTV for tips on various weather hazards, including how and why they form, and how you can protect yourself from them. We are also partnering with Publix and Midland to sell NOAA Weather Radios at a reduced cost. You can pick those up at your neighborhood Publix store at a reduced cost this month.
