Floods Affect Ground Water

FSU's Department of Geologic Sciences tell us water flow has drastically increased in the local rivers. The department says rivers like the Ochlockonee have increased flow by 20 percent in some areas. But some experts say things will return to normal soon.

"A lot of the rain we have is sort of, in a way, a flash in the pan. The water will quickly flow and drain into the gulf and water levels will return to a fairly low level in the near future." said Stephen Kish, Ph.D. with the FSU Department of Geo Sciences.

Until the water levels return to normal, the Leon County Health Department advises all residents whose private wells have been contaminated to boil their water 12 to 15 minutes before drinking or cooking with it.
