The tornadoes that struck the Big Bend on Friday have many wondering just how often events of that magnitude occur in this area?

Up until last year, only two tornadoes have been confirmed in Leon County this decade; one in 2003 near Bloxham and another a year later in Northeast Leon County. Many more have dotted the landscape in Southwest Georgia and in the western Big Bend, with fewer in the southeastern Big Bend.

We've linked to the National Weather Service Tornado Climatology Page below. Just choose the county in which you're interested. Suwannee, Hamilton, Echols and Clinch counties are not yet available.
