3:30 pm Update
The National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center says the severe weather threat is dwindling. A minimal threat still exists for a few thunderstorms to produce damaging wind gusts this afternoon and evening.

The line of thunderstorms is moving in advance of a cold front and will move into areas near the Apalachicola River shortly after 4 pm, then to the Tallahassee-Thomasville corridor by 5-6 pm, then on to Valdosta and the Suwannee River after 6 pm.

The strong on-shore winds continue, and the High Surf Advisories and Coastal Flood Advisories for coastal sections of Franklin, Wakulla, Jefferson, Taylor, and Dixie counties continues until 6 am Thursday.

The Storm Prediction Center - the National Weather Service office that issues national severe weather forecasts including watches - forecasts a slight risk for severe weather for North Florida and South Georgia today.

A spring-time cold front is making its way through the Alabama and the western part of the Florida Panhandle this morning. Several severe thunderstorm warnings have been issued outside of the WCTV viewing area; however, a few watches and warnings have been posted for our area:

  • A Coastal Flood Advisory and a are in effect for Franklin, Wakulla, Jefferson, Taylor, and Dixie counties until 6 am Thursday.
  • A Wind Advisory is in effect for the entire WCTV viewing area until 8 pm Wednesday night.

As a cold front approaches the area from the west, strong onshore winds will create high waves and seas and will push water over the low-lying coastal areas. Morning offshore buoy observations indicate winds of nearly 35 mph and nearly 11 foot seas. As the high waves are pushed ashore near the coast, minor beach erosion and overwash of low-lying areas is possible. The worst coastal flooding is most likely around the time of high tide - those times can be found on the Weather page of the wctv.tv website and are between 2-4:30 pm Wednesday.

Things are quiet for this morning, but stay with the WCTV Pinpoint Weather Team and wctv.tv for the latest weather information throughout the afternoon.
