The U.S. Geological Survey says a magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck the northwestern Caribbean Sea early Thursday morning.
The quake occurred about 6 miles below the surface of the earth, and the epicenter was about 60 miles west of Swan Island or about 650 miles south-southwest of Miami, Florida. It struck about 150 miles north of Nicaragua's north-facing coast.
Light shaking was reported over parts of Central America, but no damage or injuries have been reported.
