Local Organization Wins Award at Hurricane Conference

The Federal Alliance for Safe Homes, or FLASH, won an outstanding achievement award at the National Hurricane Conference in Orlando.

FLASH won the mitigation award and was one of five organizations from Florida that won one of the outstanding achievement awards from the conference.

Other winners from Florida included Indian River County Administrator Joe Baird, who won the award for recover. The Public Awareness award was presented to the Pinellas County Communications Department. Robert Brookens was presented with a special award. Brookens is the President of the Hurricane Hollow Weather Corporation in Glen St. Mary. The Lifetime Achievement award was presented in recognition for former WTSP-TV Chief Meteorologist Dick Fletcher who passed away in February 2007.

The National Hurricane Conference is held each year and includes presentations for professional training in hurricane preparedness.
